Halfmoon Pond

Halfmoon Pond is a small pond entirely within Acadia National Park. The mountain in the photographs is Youngs Mountain. Halfmoon Pond is comparable in size to French Hill Pond. The surface area of Halfmoon Pond is 3 acres (0.012 square kilometers) and is at an altitude of 250 feet (76.3 meters) above sea level. It has a maximum depth of 20 feet (6.1 meters) and an average depth of 14 feet (4.3 meters).  Halfmoon Pond is mesotrophic, that is it has moderate levels of vegetation and dissolved oxygen. The fish in Halfmoon Pond include Brook Trout, Minnows and Banded Killifish. The next photograph is a wider view of Halfmoon Pond showing some of the wetland southeast of the pond.

Half Moon Pond

Halfmoon Pond is adjacent to a carriage road that can be entered at the Eagle Lake parking area. Walk or bicycle to the carriage road passing the parking area and take a right. Halfmoon Pond is past Breakneck Ponds about two miles (3.2 kilometers) from the Eagle Lake parking area.
